The GT squad received bad news when their top fast bowler Mohammed Shami won’t play in the upcoming Indian Premier League season (IPL 2024). Shami had surgery in the UK because the National Cricket Academy (NCA) suggested it. The surgery was for his Achilles tendon, which had been bothering him since the World Cup. Shami said it will take time to heal, but he hopes to play cricket again soon.
Shami was the top wicket-taker last year, getting 28 wickets in 17 matches with an average of 18.61. His absence will be felt in IPL 2024. The Gujarat Titans, who won IPL 2022 and were finalists in IPL 2023, need to find someone to replace him.

Kamlesh Nagarkoti
Nagarkoti played with Ishan Porel for India in the 2018 U19 World Cup. He amazed everyone by bowling at over 140 kph. He got an IPL contract with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and played 12 games for them and Delhi Capitals. However, he suffered multiple back stress fractures due to his fast bowling. Despite being fit now, he wasn’t picked in the IPL 2024 auction. He has played 25 T20 matches and got 19 wickets. Though he hasn’t shined much in T20s, he’s talented and could surprise everyone if Gujarat Titans (GT squad) sign him.

Varun Aaron
Aaron retired from red-ball cricket but will still play white-ball games. He was once India’s fastest bowler and played 18 games for India, taking 29 wickets.
Varun Aaron
played 52 IPL matches, getting 44 wickets. He played two matches for Gujarat Titans (GT squad) in IPL 2022 but wasn’t picked in IPL 2023 and 2024 auctions. Aaron still bowls fast and has added new tricks like a slower ball. With his experience and speed, he could fill in for Shami in IPL 2024.

Ishan Porel
Porel played only one IPL match. He made a mark in the U19 World Cup in 2018. While his teammates like Shubman Gill and Prithvi Shaw made it big, injuries slowed Porel down. He played one match for Punjab Kings in IPL 2021, taking one wicket. He wasn’t picked in the IPL 2024 auction either. Shami’s absence might give him a chance. Porel played 29 T20 matches, taking 40 wickets with an economy of 7.17. Gujarat Titans might see him as a replacement for Shami.
