Rohit Sharma To Captain India For T20 World Cup 2024, Jay Shah Confirms

It’s all official now. The captain of India’s Test and ODI teams, Rohit Sharma, is expected to lead the team for the ICC T20 World Cup in June 2024. Jay Shah, the secretary of BCCI, hinted that Rohit will lead the T20 World Cup team. He made this announcement during the event where they renamed the Rajkot stadium to the Niranjan Shah Stadium on February 14th.

During the event, Jay Shah expressed his confidence in Rohit’s leadership. He mentioned that even though India lost the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup, they won hearts by winning 10 matches in a row. Jay Shah believes that India will win the 2024 T20 World Cup under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy in Barbados.

There was a lot of talk about who would captain the team for the T20 World Cup. Names like Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav were circulating, as they had led the team when the senior pro was absent. However, when Rohit was named as captain for the home T20I series against Afghanistan in January, it became clear that he would lead the team for the 20-over World Cup.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were both selected for the Afghanistan series. This series marked their return to international T20 cricket since India’s semi-final exit at the ICC T20 World Cup in November 2022.

In the meantime, India is preparing to play against England for the third Test in Rajkot. The match will take place at what was previously known as the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, starting on Thursday, February 15th.
