They Were Never As Strong As MI’: Ex-RCB All-Rounder Drops Huge Remark On Franchise’s Winless IPL Run

Colin de Grandhomme, a former player for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), shared his views on why RBS has not won the IPL title for now. As said by him, RCB didn’t have a well-balanced team of players like Mumbai Indians. Moreover, De Grandhomme said RCB’s dependency on two or three players cost them badly in the marquee event.

In the IPL, two teams that everyone talks about a lot are RCB and MI. But, when we look at how well they play, it’s clear they have different stories. MI is like the superstar team, winning five big titles. On the other hand, RCB is still waiting for their first victory, even though they have some really good batters.

There’s this player, De Grandhomme, who knows a thing or two about RCB. He played in 13 matches for them. According to him, RCB’s struggle comes from not having a team that’s well-balanced. It’s like having a delicious pizza but missing some key toppings. That’s how important balance is in cricket, and RCB is working hard to find that perfect recipe for success.

With less than two months until IPL 2024, De Grandhomme highlighted that RCB’s over-dependence on a couple of players has been a problem. He pointed out that MI succeeded because of their excellent team balance, while RCB struggled due to relying too much on a small group of players.

In an exclusive interview with TOI, De Grandhomme explained, “RCB has never matched Mumbai Indians in having a well-balanced team. Although RCB has good players, depending too much on a few hasn’t helped them become a balanced side.”

Over the years, RCB focused on top-order batsmen, neglecting the middle-order and having an average bowling attack. In contrast, MI worked on creating a balanced team with both strong batsmen and effective bowlers.

Looking ahead to IPL 2024, RCB made strategic moves in the auction, addressing concerns about their bowling. However, there are worries that the team’s bowling might still be a weak point, especially with the absence of a quality wicket-taking spinner.

The players RCB acquired in the IPL 2024 auction include Alzarri Joseph, Yash Dayal, Tom Curran, Lockie Ferguson, Swapnil Singh, and Saurav Chauhan. The team also invested heavily in Alzarri Joseph, spending 11.50 crores on him.

RCB’s current squad for IPL 2024 includes Faf du Plessis (captain), Glenn Maxwell, Virat Kohli, and other players. There’s anticipation surrounding the team’s performance, especially with the changes made during the auction, and cricket enthusiasts are eager to see if RCB can finally clinch their maiden IPL title.

3 RCB bowlers to watch out for in IPL 2024.

The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) made a big splash in the IPL 2024 auction. People always said their bowling wasn’t strong, especially when they played at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, a small ground. They have big players like Chris Gayle, AB de Villiers, and Virat Kohli, but they never won an IPL title.

But in the IPL 2024 auction, RCB focused on getting good fast bowlers. They got Alzarri Joseph, Yash Dayal, Lockie Ferguson, and Tom Curran, along with the ones they already had like Mohammed Siraj, Vijaykumar Vyshak, and Akash Deep.

Here are three RCB bowlers to watch in IPL 2024:

  1. Reece Topley

Reece Topley, from England, had to stop playing in IPL 2023 because of a shoulder injury. But he did well for England in the 2023 World Cup. He’s tall and can bowl different kinds of balls on the Chinnaswamy pitch. He’s taken 210 wickets in 162 T20 matches. But he gets injured easily, so RCB needs to be careful with him.

  1. Alzarri Joseph

Alzarri Joseph was let go by Gujarat Titans but RCB bought him for a lot of money. He can bowl really fast, at 150 kph, and he’s good at yorkers and bouncers. He might help RCB in the end of the game, but sometimes his speed can help batters too. He’s shown he can handle tough situations before.

  1. Mohammed Siraj

Mohammed Siraj will lead RCB in IPL 2024. He’ll have help from Kohli and du Plessis. With Hazlewood gone, he’ll guide the young bowlers in RCB. He’s played 73 games for RCB and taken 68 wickets. His economy is 8.47, and his best bowling is 4/21.

Siraj joined RCB in IPL 2018 from Sunrisers Hyderabad. Kohli supported him even when he struggled with the economy. Now, he’s not just good in IPL but also for the Indian team.

David Warner confirms international retirement after T20 World Cup 2024

David Warner, an Australian cricketer with years of experience shared his plans to step out of cricket after the 2024 T20 World Cup in June. Warner, who recently led Australia to victory against West Indies in a thrilling T20 match, announced his decision at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart.

Warner, who is 37 years old, has already stopped playing One Day Internationals (ODIs) and Test cricket. He said goodbye to the 50-over games on January 1. Then, he played his last Test match on January 6. During this match, fans cheered him warmly at the Sydney Cricket Ground because he helped Australia win against Pakistan a lot.

In his 100th time playing for Australia in T20 games, Warner became only the third cricket player ever to reach 100 matches in all types of international games. His amazing play, scoring 70 runs in just 36 balls, helped Australia get a 1-0 lead against West Indies. Warner’s great batting skills, along with Adam Zampa taking three wickets, made sure Australia won even though West Indies tried hard to come back.

Warner expressed how happy he felt about winning and mentioned his plan to quit international cricket after the T20 World Cup in June. “I’m so glad we won. The field was good for batting, and I’m really happy with how I played. I’m looking forward to the T20 World Cup. Our team has a bright future, and I want to stay with them until the end,” Warner said after the game.

If Australia wins the T20 World Cup, Warner can retire as a champion in different types of cricket. He was a big part of the Australian team that won the World Test Championship last June and the ODI World Cup in November.

Australia is in Group B with England, Namibia, Oman, and Scotland in the 2024 T20 World Cup. They start playing on June 6 against Oman.

Virat Kohli withdraws from India-England series, change in pace department

The former captain of the Indian Cricket team, Virat Kohli has reported to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the senior national selection committee that he won’t be playing in the last three Tests of the series against England. This decision came during a meeting where the selectors were deciding on the squad for the matches in Rajkot, Ranchi, and Dharamshala.

At the start of the series, Kohli talked with Indian captain Rohit Sharma, the team leaders, and the selectors. He said that while protecting his country is his main focus, he has some personal issues that need his full attention.

Afterward, BCCI secretary Jay Shah said in a press release, “We understand Kohli’s choice. The Board and team leaders support him. The rest of the team believes in their skills to perform well in the Test series.”

Kohli won’t be playing in the first home series of his career. After India made a strong comeback in Vizag to tie the series at 1-1, the selectors chose not to alter the winning team too much. They appreciated the good performances in the Test series.

Shreyas Iyer, a player who bats in the middle of the cricket lineup, won’t be playing the next three Tests because he got hurt. He’ll be looked after by the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru while he gets better. Rahul and Jadeja couldn’t play in the second Test because they were injured, but now they’re all better and back on the team, which helps keep everything fair.

The people who chose the players also decided to make sure Jasprit Bumrah doesn’t get too tired, so he can play well in the important third Test. They picked Akash Deep to take Avesh Khan’s place for the rest of the tests. The people who chose the players think Avesh should focus on playing in the Ranji Trophy instead of sitting on the bench. Akash Deep made a good impression on the people who chose the players and Rohit during a recent match against the England Lions in Ahmedabad.
