IPL 2024: Lance Klusener joins Lucknow Super Giants coaching staff ahead of IPL 17

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have added Lance Klusener, a former South African all-rounder, to their team before the upcoming Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024).

On March 1, LSG said they signed Lance Klusener as their assistant coach for the upcoming IPL 2024, which starts on March 22. He will work with head coach Justin Langer and another assistant coach, S Sriram, to bring his experience to the LSG’s coaching staff.

Lance Klusener also works with the Super Giants’ SA20 affiliate team, Durban’s Super Giants, in South Africa’s SA20. Klusener has been an IPL coach before. He helped former South African captain Shaun Pollock when he coached the Mumbai Indians (MI).

 

Lance Klusener has a good history. He led the Guyana Amazon Warriors to their first Caribbean Premier League (CPL) title last year.

 

Besides the IPL and CPL, Klusener has coached different teams. He was Afghanistan’s head coach and a batting coach for South Africa and Zimbabwe. He also helped Tripura in India’s domestic cricket. Klusener played 49 Tests and 171 ODIs for South Africa from 1996 to 2004.

LSG will start their IPL 2024 journey against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Jaipur on March 24, 2024. LSG reached the IPL playoffs in both seasons they played since 2022, but they didn’t reach the final.

Sarfaraz Khan, the talented cricket player from India, finds himself in a tricky situation when it comes to the Indian Premier League (IPL). Even though many teams are interested in him, his future in the league isn’t certain.

 

Delhi Capitals let him go before the IPL 2024 auction, which puts Sarfaraz’s IPL journey in doubt. While he’s done well in local cricket matches, he hasn’t been very consistent in the IPL games.

 

Sourav Ganguly, who works with Delhi Capitals, explained why they decided to release Sarfaraz. Ganguly thinks Sarfaraz Khan is better suited for traditional cricket with red balls rather than the fast and short T20 games.

 

“He seems to be more comfortable playing five-day cricket matches. He’s done exceptionally well in domestic cricket like Ranji Trophy and other important games,” Ganguly shared with RevSportz. “When you score a lot of runs in these matches, it’s always a good thing.”

 

Even though nobody picked Sarfaraz during the IPL 2024 auction, his luck changed after a great game against England in Rajkot. Now, teams like Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings are interested in having him play for them. Gautam Gambhir, who helps Kolkata Knight Riders, thinks Sarfaraz could be a valuable addition to their team.

 

But it won’t be easy for Sarfaraz to choose a team. There’s competition from other franchises like CSK and Royal Challengers Bangalore. Because he wasn’t part of any trades after leaving Delhi Capitals, any new deal would likely happen at the last minute.

A big BCCI boss talked with Hardik Pandya recently. He managed to avoid some trouble that Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer faced. Kishan and Iyer are great batters for India’s cricket team. But the cricket board didn’t include them in its contracts for the next season. They didn’t follow BCCI’s rule to play in the Ranji Trophy. Kishan didn’t play for Jharkhand, and Iyer skipped a match for Mumbai. After this, Irfan Pathan, a former Indian player, talked about Hardik Pandya.

 

Pandya got a Grade A contract from BCCI. He only plays white-ball cricket for India. Irfan Pathan said Pandya got treated differently. He plays for Baroda in domestic T20s and Vijay Hazare Trophy when he’s not with the national team. BCCI talked with Pandya about this. They said he can’t play red-ball cricket due to an injury. So, he must play white-ball tournaments when he’s not with India. Otherwise, he might lose his contract.

 

What’s next for Pandya?

He’s recovering from an ankle injury before IPL 2024. Pandya played for Reliance One in a local tournament and trained in Vadodara. His fitness is checked at the National Cricket Academy. Last, he played for India in 2023 against Bangladesh.

Irfan Pathan supports BCCI’s choice to leave out Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer from the main contract list. However, he also points out something important about Hardik Pandya.

 

Irfan questions why Hardik Pandya, who doesn’t play certain cricket matches in local leagues, gets treated differently. He thinks the Indian cricket board should treat Pandya the same as they treated Ishan and Iyer to get better results.

 

The Mumbai Indians captain hasn’t played since the ICC World Cup 2023 due to an injury. Recently, he appeared in the DY Patil T20 tournament after being away from cricket for a while. 

 

Pandya often shares videos on social media but hasn’t been active in games. Before the DY Patil tournament, he played in three practice matches organized by the National Cricket Academy. 

 

Because of a past back surgery, Pandya doesn’t play the longer red-ball cricket matches anymore but continues to play shorter formats for the Indian national team.

 

Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer Irfan shared his thoughts on the matter.

 

“They are talented cricketers, both Shreyas and Ishan. Hoping they bounce back and come back stronger. If players like Hardik don’t want to play red ball cricket, should he and others like him participate in white-ball domestic cricket when they aren’t on national duty? If this doesn’t apply to all, then Indian cricket won’t achieve the desired results,” he wrote.

 

This isn’t the first time Irfan has spoken about Hardik Pandya.

 

Irfan Pathan and Hardik Pandya haven’t always gotten along, despite playing for the same team in the Ranji Trophy. They both represented Baroda in domestic cricket. When it was announced that Hardik would leave Gujarat Titans for Mumbai Indians, Irfan questioned the loyalty of the player without directly naming him.

 

Hardik played for Mumbai since his IPL debut before moving to another team when the champions didn’t keep him for IPL 2022. He became captain of Gujarat Titans and led them to victory in the first season. The team made it to the final in 2023 but lost to Chennai Super Kings.

 

Pandya then decided to return to Mumbai for IPL 2024, and the deal was made between the two teams.

In the fast-paced world of T20 cricket, playing in both the IPL and PSL is tough. Only a few players manage it. These players switch teams a lot between leagues. But some have won trophies in both tournaments, showing how good they are at cricket no matter where they play.

  1. Sohail Tanvir

Sohail Tanvir, a former Pakistani bowler, is special because he won both the IPL and PSL. He won the IPL with the Rajasthan Royals in 2008. Hardik Pandya ‘glad to be back’ after long injury layoff

Hardik Pandya felt really happy to be back playing cricket again after being away for more than 5 months. He got hurt back in October 2023 while playing for India in the World Cup match against Bangladesh led by Najmul Hossain Shanto. When he was bowling, he fell and couldn’t keep bowling. He seemed to be in a lot of pain, so he had to leave the game. It was disappointing for him when he was told he couldn’t play in the rest of the tournament.

 

But recently, Hardik came back to play in the DY Patil T20 Cup 2024. Just the other day, he played for Reliance 1 against BPCL at the DY Patil Stadium. After the match, he shared on Instagram how happy he was to be playing cricket again. He wrote, “Happy to be back doing what I love.”

 

How did Hardik Pandya do in his comeback game? Well, he managed to take 2 wickets and gave away 22 runs in 3 overs. In the beginning, he gave away 21 runs in his first 2 overs, but then he got the wickets of Rahul Tripathi and Eknath Kerkar. It took him a bit of time to find his groove, but then he started taking wickets.

 

Because of his good bowling, Reliance 1 limited the other team to only 126 runs in 18.3 overs. Dev Lakra (3-31) and Piyush Chawla (3-15) also did well for their team. Later on, Nehal Wadhera scored 50 runs, helping Reliance 1 reach the target with 5 overs left. Aakash Mishra from the other team took 5 wickets, but it wasn’t enough.

 

Looking ahead, Hardik Pandya is expected to play in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL). Recently, he became the captain of the Mumbai Indians (MI) after replacing Rohit Sharma. Back in 2022, when Hardik was the captain, Gujarat Titans won the IPL title. Then in 2023, they finished as the runners-up before Hardik went back to his old team, MI.

Ishan Kishan, a cricket player from India, got back into playing cricket after taking a break. He played in a T20 Cup in Navi Mumbai, representing RBI. He did some good plays, like getting a player out and scoring some runs. But his team lost the match.

 

The other team, Route Mobile Limited, batted first and scored a lot of runs. A player named Aayush Vartan scored 54 runs and another player named Sumit Dhekale scored 42 runs. In response, Ishan Kishan’s team couldn’t score enough runs and got out quickly. Route Mobile Limited won the match.

 

Ishan Kishan is known for playing in the IPL but hasn’t played much in other cricket matches. He didn’t play in matches against Afghanistan and England. He mostly focuses on IPL rather than other types of cricket. This made the cricket organization in India decide that players need to play in a certain number of matches to be in the IPL.

IPL 2024: The Uncertain Participation of Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) got good news about their New Zealand players, Devon Conway, Rachin Ravindra, and Daryl Mitchell. These players were hurt but are now expected to play in the upcoming Test series against Australia, which makes CSK happy.

Daryl Mitchell hurt his foot and couldn’t play in the T20I series. Rachin Ravindra had a problem with his knee and missed the second T20I. Devon Conway hurt his thumb during the same match and couldn’t play the final game.

Devon Conway hurt his left thumb while keeping wickets in the second T20I. Luckily, the X-rays showed no breaks, which was a relief for New Zealand. However, Conway couldn’t bat in the chase, and New Zealand lost.

While Mitchell and Ravindra might be fit for the first Test against Australia, we’re not sure about Conway. Coach Gary Stead is worried about Conway’s recovery and wants him to feel comfortable playing. Even though his thumb isn’t broken, doctors will watch him closely.
