IND vs ENG: Four Possible Replacements if Jasprit Bumrah Rests for Ranchi Test

With a big 434-run victory over England in the third Test in Rajkot, India is now leading 2-1 in the five-match series.

On the bowling side, Jasprit Bumrah did really well, taking the most wickets in all three Tests so far. Because he worked so hard, he might take a break in the next Test in Ranchi as part of a plan to manage players’ workload. In the second Test in Visakhapatnam, India had given a rest to bowler Mohammed Siraj.

In the Visakhapatnam Test, Bumrah, who is 30 years old, helped India win with nine wickets, including an amazing six for 45 in the first innings. In total, he bowled 80.5 overs in the series and got 17 wickets with an average of 13.65.

Now that Bumrah might rest, India is thinking about who can replace him in the Ranchi Test. Since Ranchi’s pitch is usually good for spinners, India might bring in a new spinner or a medium pacer instead of Bumrah. Siraj will probably lead the attack.

Here are some options for Bumrah’s replacement in the Ranchi Test:

  1. Mukesh Kumar

   – A 30-year-old Bengal pacer.

   – Did okay in the last three Tests.

   – Had a great game at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, taking 10 wickets in a match.

   – Good on tricky pitches, might replace Bumrah.

  1. Akash Deep

   – A 27-year-old Bengal quick.

   – Got his first chance to play for India after the second Test.

   – Took 10 wickets in two games against England Lions in Ahmedabad.

   – Important player for Bengal in red-ball cricket.

  1. Axar Patel or Washington Sundar

   – If the Ranchi pitch helps spinners, India might choose an extra spinner.

   – Axar Patel was dropped for the third Test but can be considered again.

   – Washington Sundar hasn’t played a Test in almost three years.

In the last England game, India struggled against spin, so they might pick a spinner if the pitch is good for it. Axar Patel or Washington Sundar could replace Bumrah in that case.

Mayank Agarwal jokingly pokes fun at himself in a recent post on X: ‘Absolutely no risk-taking.’

Mayank Agarwal had a little adventure when he mistakenly drank something he thought was water while on a flight to Agartala. He got sick because of it and ended up in the hospital. But he didn’t let it get him down. He joked about it on Twitter later.

On his next flight, he shared a picture of himself holding a water bottle. He joked, “I’m not taking any risks at all!” He was returning from a cricket match in Agartala when he got sick on a flight to New Delhi.

The Superintendent of Police of West Tripura, Kiran Kumar K, explained what happened. Mayank saw a pouch in front of him on the flight and thought it was water. So, he drank it. But it wasn’t water, and he ended up with a swollen mouth and ulcers. Luckily, he’s okay now. His manager filed a complaint about what happened, and the police are looking into it. Mayank missed one game because of this incident but was back to lead his team in the next match against Tamil Nadu.

In the cricket matches he played, Mayank scored 398 runs, which includes two centuries and two half-centuries. His team, Karnataka, did well in their group matches and is in second place. They’re getting ready to play against Vidarbha in the quarter-finals on February 23 in Nagpur.

IPL 2024: KKR pic Dushmantha Chameera as a replacement for Gus Atkinson

Another fast bowler from England has decided not to play in the IPL 2024 season. After Mark Wood, 26-year-old Gus Atkinson won’t be joining the league, which happens just before the T20 World Cup in June.

The IPL made an announcement that Gus Atkinson, who was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs 1 crore, won’t be part of the tournament. They said that Dushmantha Chameera from Sri Lanka will take his place.

The IPL stated, “Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have chosen Dushmantha Chameera to replace England’s Gus Atkinson for the upcoming IPL 2024.” Chameera will join KKR for a price of INR 50 Lakh. He’s known for his speed and his ability to make batting difficult with his swing and seam movements. He played for Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bangalore before joining Lucknow Super Giants in the 2022 season.

No reason was given for Atkinson’s decision not to play, similar to Mark Wood’s situation. However, reports suggest that the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) withdrew him to manage his workload before the ICC tournament.

Dushmantha Chameera will strengthen Kolkata Knight Riders, who already have impressive bowlers like Andre Russell and Mitchell Starc, whom they bought for a record price of Rs 24.75 crore. KKR competed with Gujarat Titans to secure Starc’s services.

Although KKR has added Chameera to their squad, it’s important to note that he’s currently injured. He got hurt during Sri Lanka’s first ODI match against Afghanistan. Sri Lanka’s team manager Mahinda Halangoda said, “He’s feeling better now, but we won’t know for sure the exact nature of his injury until we hear back from the specialist.”

Chameera was replaced by Binura Fernando in the T20I series against Afghanistan.
