Kieron Pollard leaves PSL 2024 midway to attend Anant Ambani-Radhika Merchant’s pre-wedding event

Kieron Pollard, the former captain of the West Indies cricket team, was among the cricketers who attended a big party before the wedding of Anant Ambani, the son of Indian billionaire Mukesh Ambani, in Jamnagar on Friday, March 1. Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant, who will get married in July, organized a fancy party for famous people from the sports and entertainment fields, not only from India but from all over the world.

It’s interesting that Kieron Pollard was playing in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) for the Karachi Kings when he decided to leave the tournament to go to the event in Gujarat’s Jamnagar, India. Pollard, who has been with the Mumbai Indians in the IPL, owned by Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries Limited, is now part of the franchise’s teams in SA20 and ILT20 in the UAE as well. Other players from MI franchises in T20 leagues around the globe were also there.

Players like Tim David, Trent Boult, Dwayne Bravo, Rashid Khan, Sam Curran, and Nicholas Pooran joined Kieron Pollard at the event in Jamnagar. Indian cricket legends Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, Zaheer Khan, Suryakumar Yadav, and Ishan Kishan also attended.

A video of Kieron Pollard leaving the tournament midway went viral, with fans reacting to the experienced all-rounder’s decision. However, Kieron Pollard won’t miss any games, as he will be back to play for the Karachi Kings against Multan Sultans on Sunday, March 3.

The Kings are currently in 5th place on the points table after losing two consecutive games at home. The team, led by Shan Masood, aims to bounce back and win their remaining home games at the National Stadium. Besides cricketers, pop stars like Rihanna and many prominent politicians from around the world were also present at the event.

IPL 2024: Lance Klusener joins Lucknow Super Giants coaching staff ahead of IPL 17

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have added Lance Klusener, a former South African all-rounder, to their team before the upcoming Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024).

On March 1, LSG said they signed Lance Klusener as their assistant coach for the upcoming IPL 2024, which starts on March 22. He will work with head coach Justin Langer and another assistant coach, S Sriram, to bring his experience to the LSG’s coaching staff.

Lance Klusener also works with the Super Giants’ SA20 affiliate team, Durban’s Super Giants, in South Africa’s SA20. Klusener has been an IPL coach before. He helped former South African captain Shaun Pollock when he coached the Mumbai Indians (MI).

Lance Klusener has a good history. He led the Guyana Amazon Warriors to their first Caribbean Premier League (CPL) title last year.

Besides the IPL and CPL, Klusener has coached different teams. He was Afghanistan’s head coach and a batting coach for South Africa and Zimbabwe. He also helped Tripura in India’s domestic cricket. Klusener played 49 Tests and 171 ODIs for South Africa from 1996 to 2004.

LSG will start their IPL 2024 journey against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Jaipur on March 24, 2024. LSG reached the IPL playoffs in both seasons they played since 2022, but they didn’t reach the final.

‘His game is suited for…’: Sourav Ganguly on why Delhi Capitals released Sarfaraz Khan

Sarfaraz Khan, the talented cricket player from India, finds himself in a tricky situation when it comes to the Indian Premier League (IPL). Even though many teams are interested in him, his future in the league isn’t certain.

Delhi Capitals let him go before the IPL 2024 auction, which puts Sarfaraz’s IPL journey in doubt. While he’s done well in local cricket matches, he hasn’t been very consistent in the IPL games.

Sourav Ganguly, who works with Delhi Capitals, explained why they decided to release Sarfaraz. Ganguly thinks Sarfaraz Khan is better suited for traditional cricket with red balls rather than the fast and short T20 games.

“He seems to be more comfortable playing five-day cricket matches. He’s done exceptionally well in domestic cricket like Ranji Trophy and other important games,” Ganguly shared with RevSportz. “When you score a lot of runs in these matches, it’s always a good thing.”

Even though nobody picked Sarfaraz during the IPL 2024 auction, his luck changed after a great game against England in Rajkot. Now, teams like Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings are interested in having him play for them. Gautam Gambhir, who helps Kolkata Knight Riders, thinks Sarfaraz could be a valuable addition to their team.

But it won’t be easy for Sarfaraz to choose a team. There’s competition from other franchises like CSK and Royal Challengers Bangalore. Because he wasn’t part of any trades after leaving Delhi Capitals, any new deal would likely happen at the last minute.

Women’s red-ball cricket to return to India’s domestic calendar

After six years, women’s red-ball cricket is coming back in India’s local cricket games. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is arranging the Senior Women’s Inter-Zonal Multi-Day Trophy in Pune starting on March 28. The last time women played a red-ball tournament in India was in 2018, and those matches lasted for two days.

This news comes after India did well in recent single Tests against England and Australia in December 2023. Although India played Tests during visits to England and Australia in 2021, the last time women played a Test match in India was in 2014 when South Africa came for a tour.

The Maharashtra Cricket Association will host the matches, starting with the East Zone vs. North East Zone and West Zone vs. Central Zone fixtures. North Zone and South Zone have advanced to the semi-finals directly through a draw of lots and will face the winners of the initial matches on April 3. The tournament will conclude with the final on April 9, and all matches are scheduled to be three-day affairs.

This cricketing event will commence just over ten days after the conclusion of the second edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) on March 17 in Delhi. There has been a growing demand for more women’s Test matches, as currently, only sporadic Tests involving Australia, England, India, and South Africa take place. For the Indian team, this presents a challenge as they have limited experience in this format.

In early December, before the big match with England, Smriti Mandhana talked about how tough it is to play a four-day Test. She said it’s not just about physical strength but also about being mentally strong. She hoped that the BCCI (that’s the cricket board) would start up red-ball competitions for women again. She thinks it’s important to change how women’s cricket is set up so it matches what happens internationally, especially since there are more Test matches now.

Meg Lanning, more recently, has been talking a lot about this too. She’s saying it’s really hard to get ready for Test matches. Lanning thinks we need to have more Test matches so players can get better at them and really understand how to play. She’s noticed that when there are only a few Test matches, it’s tough for teams to get used to them and do well. People are still arguing about whether we should have more Test matches or focus more on short games like T20s and ODIs.

‘BCCI had discussions with Hardik Pandya’: How India all-rounder escaped Kishan-Iyer treatment at the last moment

A big BCCI boss talked with Hardik Pandya recently. He managed to avoid some trouble that Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer faced. Kishan and Iyer are great batters for India’s cricket team. But the cricket board didn’t include them in its contracts for the next season. They didn’t follow BCCI’s rule to play in the Ranji Trophy. Kishan didn’t play for Jharkhand, and Iyer skipped a match for Mumbai. After this, Irfan Pathan, a former Indian player, talked about Hardik Pandya.

Pandya got a Grade A contract from BCCI. He only plays white-ball cricket for India. Irfan Pathan said Pandya got treated differently. He plays for Baroda in domestic T20s and Vijay Hazare Trophy when he’s not with the national team. BCCI talked with Pandya about this. They said he can’t play red-ball cricket due to an injury. So, he must play white-ball tournaments when he’s not with India. Otherwise, he might lose his contract.

What’s next for Pandya?

He’s recovering from an ankle injury before IPL 2024. Pandya played for Reliance One in a local tournament and trained in Vadodara. His fitness is checked at the National Cricket Academy. Last, he played for India in 2023 against Bangladesh.

All-time great: Sourav Ganguly praises R Ashwin ahead of milestone Test

Sourav Ganguly, the ex-captain of India, gave a big thumbs up to the spinner R Ashwin, saying he’s one of the best ever. Ashwin is about to play his 100th Test match when India faces England in the fifth and final Test at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala.

R Ashwin crossed the 500-wicket mark in Test cricket in Rajkot, making him only the second Indian to do so after Anil Kumble. He also went ahead of Kumble for the most Test wickets at home, reaching the 350-wicket mark at home.

Ashwin joined an elite club, becoming the ninth bowler to pick 500 wickets in Test cricket. Others in this exclusive group include legends like Muthiah Muralitharan, Shane Warne, James Anderson, Stuart Broad, Kumble, Glenn McGrath, Courtney Walsh, and Nathan Lyon.

In an interview with Revsportz, Ganguly praised R Ashwin, calling him an all-time great. He also gave a shout-out to Ravindra Jadeja, labeling him as the best all-rounder currently, who holds the top spot in the latest ICC rankings for Test all-rounders.

Ganguly expressed his admiration, saying, “All-time great, all-time great stuff. Getting 500 wickets is no joke. And then you have Jadeja, the best all-rounder at the moment. Doing well with both bat and ball in these conditions.”

Jadeja, after a splendid 87 in Hyderabad, scored his fourth Test century in Rajkot and is the third-highest wicket-taker in India’s Test series against England, grabbing 17 wickets in the first four Tests.

Talking about Kuldeep Yadav, Ganguly noted the spinner’s remarkable improvement and predicted a long innings for him in the Indian team. Kuldeep has taken 12 wickets in three Test matches during India’s series against England.

β€œI think Kuldeep has come back immensely. He’s improved a lot. And I think with bowlers like R Ashwin and Jadeja, he’s not been overshadowed. He’s made his mark in the series and will continue to play for India for a long time,” added Ganguly.

India aims to finish their five-match Test series against England on a high note in Dharamsala on March 7. The hosts lead 3-1 in the series, securing victories in Vizag, Rajkot, and Ranchi after their loss in Hyderabad.
