On IPL 2024 Being MS Dhoni’s Last, Ex-CSK Star’s Honest Verdict

Parthiv Patel, the ex-India wicketkeeper, recently shared his thoughts on what’s next for Dhoni in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Dhoni, who has won the IPL five times as captain, is making a comeback after almost a year. The new IPL 2024 season begins on March 22, with Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings (CSK) facing off against the Royal Challengers Bangalore at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Dhoni hasn’t played since CSK won the 2023 IPL in Ahmedabad.

Every year before the IPL starts, people wonder if Dhoni will continue with CSK. This year is no different. Dhoni had knee surgery after last year’s IPL final. But the CEO of CSK, Kasi Viswanath, said Dhoni will lead the team this season.

Parthiv believes only Dhoni can say if he’s done with the IPL or not. Parthiv said on Jio Cinema, “Dhoni plays once every 10 months. Every time, people talk about whether this will be his last time playing cricket. Only Dhoni knows.”

Dhoni hasn’t played any games since the last IPL. Parthiv thinks this IPL will be tough for Dhoni because he hasn’t played regularly. He said, “In the past, we’ve seen big players struggle in the IPL if they haven’t played much cricket before. It happened with players like Mathew Hayden and Adam Gilchrist.”

The first two weeks’ schedule of the IPL was announced recently. CSK, led by MS Dhoni, will play two matches at their home ground, the MA Chidambaram Stadium. On March 26, they’ll face Gujarat Titans, a repeat of last year’s final.

During a function organised by Single.ID, MS Dhoni last week talked about his style of leadership and what it takes to handle the responsibilities as the captain of a team.

“Loyalty has a lot to do with the respect factor. When you talk about the dressing room, unless the support staff or players respect you, it is difficult to get that loyalty.

It is actually about what you are doing and not about what you are speaking. You may not actually speak anything but your conduct can earn that respect,” MS Dhoni said.

As a leader, I’ve always believed that respect isn’t something you automatically get because of your title or position. It’s something you earn through your actions and how you treat others. People can feel unsure sometimes, and even if your team trusts you, you might be the one doubting yourself the most.

To put it simply, don’t demand respect; earn it by being genuine. Once you have people’s trust, good performance usually follows.

The captain who led his team to victory in the World Cup shared these thoughts.

After winning the IPL last time, fans of the Chennai Super Kings are eagerly waiting for MS Dhoni to return this year.

Dhoni had to deal with a knee injury last season, but that didn’t stop him from leading Chennai to their fifth IPL title. In the IPL 2023 final against the Gujarat Titans, Chennai, with Dhoni at the helm, won by five wickets.
