In one of the most exciting matches of this year’s Pakistan Super League (PSL) between Karachi Kings and Quetta Gladiators, Quetta won in the end, thanks to a fantastic performance by Sherfane Rutherford. He hit six sixes during his innings of 58 runs. 

Rutherford came to bat when Quetta was struggling at 89 runs for the loss of four wickets, and soon they lost their fifth wicket too. With two new players at the pitch, Rutherford and his teammate Akeal Hosein, things were tough.

Among Rutherford’s six sixes, one gained a lot of attention on social media because of how far and high it went. It even hit the roof of the Karachi Stadium! 

During the seventeenth over’s final ball, Rutherford smashed a huge six over the deep mid-wicket boundary against Hasan Ali. This six relieved a lot of pressure as Quetta needed only 34 runs from the last 18 deliveries, which they managed to get.

After this brilliant innings, Rutherford will play for Quetta again in their next match against Islamabad United on 2nd March in Rawalpindi.

After 17 overs, Islamabad United was at 173 for 3 chasing 202. Then, something big happened. Azam Khan, who scored 75 runs from just 30 balls, got out, leaving space for a new hero. Arif Yaqoob, a 29-year-old playing his 15th T20 match, did something amazing.

He took four wickets in one over with his leg spin bowling. ESPNcricinfo‘s Forecaster tool showed a huge change: Peshawar Zalmi’s chances of winning jumped from 37% to 91% in just six balls. Here’s what happened:

It started in the 18th over when the first setback occurred.

At 17.6 overs, Naveen-ul-Haq bowled to Azam Khan, who got out. The ball was good, Azam tried to hit it hard but missed, and Babar Azam caught it brilliantly. Azam Khan was disappointed with himself for not doing better. He misjudged the delivery and lost his balance while trying to hit it hard.

Azam Khan scored 75 runs from 30 balls, with 6 fours and 6 sixes.

At 18.1 overs, Arif Yaqoob bowled to Munro, who also got out. Munro tried to hit a big shot but missed, and Haseebullah Khan quickly removed the bails. Munro had to leave the field. The game was getting more intense.

Then, at 18.2 overs, Arif Yaqoob bowled to Faheem, who scored 1 run.

At 18.3 overs, Yaqoob bowled to Haider Ali, who got out without scoring any runs.

At 18.4 overs, Yaqoob bowled to Imad Wasim, who got 1 leg bye.

At 18.5 overs, Yaqoob bowled to Faheem again, who got out this time. Faheem tried a tricky shot but failed, and Luke Wood caught the ball easily. Arif was very happy with his performance.

Faheem Ashraf scored 1 run from 2 balls.

At 18.6 overs, Arif bowled to Hunain Shah, who also got out without scoring any runs. Rovman Powell caught the ball, and there was chaos on the field.

Hunain Shah scored 0 runs from 1 ball.

From needing 21 runs to win in the final two overs, with six wickets left, United suddenly lost the game. Arif made it happen. Just nine days ago, nobody knew about him. Now, he’s the star of the show.

The 13th match of the Pakistan Super League 2024 is set to take place between PES vs ISL on Monday at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

Peshawar Zalmi (PES) won their last game, making it their second win in a row. They scored 211-4 when they batted first and then limited Lahore Qalandars to 203-6. Islamabad United, on the other hand, won their first game but lost the next two. In their recent defeat against the Quetta Gladiators, they could only score 138 runs in 20 overs, which the Gladiators chased down in the 19th over.

Before the PES (Peshawar Zalmi) vs ISL (Islamabad United) match, here are three players you might want to consider as captain or vice-captain for your Dream11 team.

Islamabad United’s captain Shadab Khan didn’t perform well with the bat in the last game against the Quetta Gladiators. He only scored two runs off four balls before getting out to Mohammad Hasnain. However, he did well with the ball, taking the wickets of Sarfaraz Ahmed and Mohammad Wasim Jr. He only gave away 24 runs in four overs. Shadab is a reliable all-rounder who can contribute with both bat and ball.

Agha Salman is having a great season with the bat for Islamabad United. He is the highest run-scorer in PSL 2024 for his team, scoring 149 runs in three games with an average of 74.50. He played a good innings against the Quetta Gladiators in the last match, scoring 33 runs off 23 balls before getting out in the 12th over. Given his current form, he’s a good choice for your Dream11 team.

Babar Azam from Peshawar Zalmi is also in good form in PSL 2024. He is among the top three run-scorers in the tournament, having scored 219 runs in four games with an average of 54.75. Babar performed well against the Lahore Qalandars in the last game, scoring 48 runs off 36 balls before getting out in the 15th over. He hit five boundaries during his innings and is a solid pick for your Dream11 team.

𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐀𝐥𝐬𝐨:  PSL 2024: LAH vs KAR Dream11 Prediction for February 24 Match

The cricket match between Islamabad United and Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024 at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on February 22 became controversial due to issues with the Decision Review System (DRS).

In the 11th over of Quetta Gladiators’ batting, Rilee Rossouw was at the crease, having scored 13 runs from 18 balls. When Agha Salman from Islamabad United bowled, Rossouw attempted a sweep shot, but the ball hit his pads. The on-field umpire declared Rossouw ‘Out’ after Islamabad United appealed.

Rossouw wasn’t sure about the decision, so he asked for a review using the DRS. Islamabad United’s players were surprised when the replay showed that the ball didn’t even come close to hitting the stumps. According to the DRS, the ball was spinning away from the stumps, indicating it wasn’t a clean hit.

Because of this mistake in the DRS, Islamabad United lost the advantage. Rossouw, taking advantage of the situation, played a tough innings of 33 runs off 38 balls, helping his team chase down the target of 139 runs with three wickets remaining and 1.4 overs left.

The error caused a lot of criticism from players and cricket experts. To make matters worse, Hawk-Eye, the technology used for ball tracking in the DRS, admitted to making a mistake in judging Rossouw as not out against Salman Ali Agha.

It’s important to note that Hawk-Eye is the only technology approved by the International Cricket Council for ball tracking. It has been a key part of the Decision Review System since it was first tested in 2008.

𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐀𝐥𝐬𝐨: Karachi Kings hit by player availability issues ahead of PSL 2024 season

The release of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 9 anthem, which features well-known singers Ali Zafar and Aima Baig, has been announced.

The anthem, titled “Khul Ke Khel,” was created entirely by Ali Zafar. The music video includes glimpses of all six teams and some memorable moments from the previous season.

The description of the video invites everyone to join in the excitement of the HBL PSL, encouraging people to enjoy and cheer openly. It’s noted that the ninth season of the PSL is scheduled to begin on February 17, 2024, at the PCB’s headquarters in Lahore. The opening match will be between Lahore Qalandars and Islamabad United.

This cricket tournament will be held in four cities: Karachi, Lahore, Multan, and Rawalpindi, with the final match taking place at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi on March 18. The tournament will consist of 34 T20 matches played by six teams.

During the competition, Karachi will host 11 matches, including the Qualifier, two Eliminators, and the final. Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore and Pindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi will each host nine matches, while Multan will witness five matches.
