Mumbai Indians won the Women’s Premier League (WPL) inaugural season. The excellent team was led by Harmanpreet Kaur, whose leadership combined with the whole team led them to the top of the championship. This year, the team is ready again to be on the top, stronger than ever.
This year, the first match will begin with Mumbai against Delhi Capitals at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on February 23. It’s a rematch of last year’s final, where Mumbai triumphed by seven wickets.
In preparation for the new season, many Mumbai Indians players and coaching staff are already in training mode, all aiming to not let go of the trophy in Mumbai. Team manager Trupti Bhattacharya, strength and conditioning coach Stacey-Lee Hercules, cricket operations general manager Kiran More, data analyst Benjamin Hoppitt, physiotherapist Elyse Potter, fielding coach Lydia Greenway, batting coach Devieka Palshikaar, team mentor and bowling coach Jhulan Goswami, and head coach Charlotte Edwards have all gathered for the pre-season camp.
Among the players, there’s Jintimani Kalita, who showed great form in the domestic season, Saika Ishaque, now an Indian representative, Fatima Jaffer, S Sajana, B Keerthana – the new recruits, and the experienced Amanjot Kaur, all ready to play their part.
Bengaluru and Delhi will jointly host this prestigious tournament, with all five teams from last year back in action. Matches until March 4 will be held at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, with the rest shifting to Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium.
A total of 22 matches are scheduled, including the eliminator and the grand finale. Fans can catch all the action starting at 7:30 PM IST, with the final showdown set for March 17.
